Originally I intended this blog to be a vehicle for shameless self promotion of my art work. I have decided however to expand the concept and will occasionally write about other artists or exhibits, galleries etc. that I find interesting. An informal arts journal. About the Artist

K.V. Abbott

born 1960, Townshend, Vermont
　
Looking back I consider it a privilege to have grown up in the mountains of southern Vermont at the time I did. The 1960's and early 70's were a golden age for artists in Vermont. Wolf Kahn, Norman Bluhm, John Fernie and Sam Ogden are just some of the artists who moved from the city to find inspiration in the mountains.
Beginning in the late 1960's my parents brought the family to the Stratton Arts Festival every fall. I remember being mesmerized by the glass blowing demonstrations and even as a child I felt a real connection to the painters and sculptors. Many of these artists were neighbors and friends. It was a culturally rich environment. I guess it got inside me, shaped me. Making art became a natural course, a drive, a passion.
My formal training was in commercial studio photography, but I think my whole life has been a wonderful ongoing art school.
I worked briefly as a studio photographer and then seeking a change I enlisted in the U.S. Army where I served as a photojournalist.
Today I consider myself more of a painter, although I sometimes combine photography and painting. I also have a passion for sculpture, working in steel and cast concrete.
I admire all forms of art, however, I am especially fond of the modernist and postmodernist movements that came to prominence in New York during the post war era. I love the energy and poetic movement expressed in the work of the action painters of that period.
I have called Central New York home for the past 25 years living and making art at my studio near Oneida Lake
