My first tabletop sculpture for 2017. Actually I finished one that I started in 2016, but I'm counting this as my first piece completely executed this year. Welded steel. 25" X 6" X 3"

"Return To Black Mountain" SOLD

This painting was originally executed in 2007. It is acrylic on paper and has a real mid century quality to it. The piece received several awards in juried shows and garnered a lot of interest. On several occasions I thought it was sold, but for whatever reason it hung around. That is until yesterday. It was one of seven paintings purchased by CFE Credit Union for their home office in Lake Mary, Fl. . They also commissioned Deb and I to do a number of other paintings for them. This was a large purchase and will be 16 paintings in total. Very grateful and honored that they appreciate the work.

"Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday" SOLD

"Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday". Encaustic on birch panel, 16" X 24". Available at Gallery on First, Sanford, Florida. This is one of several recent encaustic paintings and sculptures that will debut at the "Got Art" show at Gallery on First, 211 E. First St., Sanford, Fl. . Opening reception October 25, 6- 9pm and is in conjunction with the Sanford "Art Walk" which is held the fourth Friday of each month. "Got Art" is a group exhibition of recent works by the twelve resident artists of Gallery on First.

"Nest" SOLD

A new steel table top sculpture. This piece measures 22" H X 15 W. I like the organic form which contrasts in an interesting way with the industrial feel of the steel. Most of it is painted royal blue except for a rusted element that I left natural with a clear sealer. This piece is currently available at Gallery on First in Sanford, Florida. $500.00

"To The Point" SOLD

"To The Point" welded steel table top sculpture. $300.00 This piece has a new home in Virginia. Once again this one sold before I took a proper photograph of it, but at least I have this snap shot. Someday I will have a permanent setup with back ground and lighting so I can photograph work before it goes before the public. Too often a piece will sell before I set up a shot and I am left with a poor record. Then again most of my work from the 1980's and 90's I only have slides or color photos. At least with digital I have something a little more manageable.

"Black, White and Red # 1, 2013" SOLD

This is the first of a series of small acrylic abstract paintings on paper. I have done several and intend to make more using only black and red on white paper. These paintings intrigue me by their simplicity yet powerful presence. Patrons seem drawn to my black and white paintings and I am curious to see the response to these with the addition of red.

This piece is a "found object" assemblage. I did this piece for the recent Masterpiece in a Day event at Gallery on First in Sanford, Florida.

The materials were all gathered from a recent day of beach combing at the Canaveral National Sea Shore.

"Gathering" is a mid-century inspired table top sculpture. The piece measures approximately 24" tall and 8" wide X 5" deep. The welded steel is painted bronze.

"Gertie" $190.00 SOLD

"Gertie" is my latest photo collage. This piece is archivally matted and framed and measures 11" X 14".

"Gertie" continues a long, ongoing series of photo collage that I first began around 1988. I produced several dozen of these using "found" tin type photographs between 1988 and 1994. I then revisited this series a couple of other times briefly in the late 90's and then again in 2010 for our show at Edgewood Gallery in Syracuse, NY.

I enjoy doing them and every now and then I come across more tin types and sometime shortly thereafter produce new pieces.

Work from this series has been included in several gallery shows in New York as well as a number of group exhibitions in museums and other venues. The series has won awards and been critically reviewed. Some good, some not as much, but overall mostly positive. To date most have sold, although I do have a few that have hung around.

"Gertie" will be one of several new pieces that I will have on display at Gallery On First for the Sanford Art Walk this Friday, 6-9pm.

"Riddle in Yellow & Black"

After a long time I finally have some new encaustic work coming along. This is the first I consider finished and have framed up. The piece measures 16 " X 16" framed. "Riddle in Yellow & Black" is matted with a black core, black mat and a contemporary simple black wooden frame. Orlando Museum of Art, 1st Thursday Event - "Sculpture The Ultimate Process"

Deb snapped this shot of me just before the show opened. This was a good introduction to the museum and to some of the local artists. Met some great people. Hopefully I will have more opportunities to show at this wonderful venue.

"Conscious Evolution, Green #1" is acrylic on canvas and measures 24" X 24". This painting is available at Gallery On First, 311 E. 1st St., Sanford, Florida.

"OK, so I stole part of the title from a song by my favorite band, Donna The Buffalo. The fact is that all non representational abstraction, at least for me is an evolution. The process is such that as you work on a painting it leads you though a series of changes. I have to make conscious decisions about where to go next, where or what not to do and most important when to stop and call it done. It really is a Conscious Evoution."

Cherie Dacko's "Pop Up" Gallery

Further evidence the arts are alive and well in Sanford, Florida.

Cherie Dacko, a fixture in the Sanford Art scene opened her "Pop Up" Gallery for two days in time for the beginning of the holiday shopping season.

I photographed her walking out of the gallery on Friday evening during the Sanford Art Walk.

The space looks exceptional. It's too bad that it's not open all the time. Congratulations Cherie! I hope it was a fruitful couple of days.

A New Garden Sculpture

I am having a lot of fun with my new plasma cutter and welder. Although I have done a lot of sculpture in the past, the steel work was fabricated from my designs. Most of my work was in concrete, wood, found objects or fiberglass.

My welding skills have a long way to go, but I'm already beginning to get comfortable with it.

I am doing a series of garden sculptures as well as table top and free standing pieces for indoors.

The garden pieces are modern, free form and organic.

What a blast!

I haven't titled this piece yet. In fact I'm uncertain if it is finished. I am going to live with it as is for a while. Response has been favorable by those who have seen it, so we'll see. Knowing when to stop is often the hardest part.
