The New York State Council for the Arts has awarded two Individual Artists Grants for 2008 in the amount of $1,000. This is the first year that NYSCA has included Oswego County in this program. I am fortunate to be the recipient of one of the awards. The $1,000 will go toward a public sculpture for the village of Central Square. This project is slated for the spring of 2008. NYSCA grants are administered through the Cultural Resources Council of Syracuse.

David Hayes, Sculptor

Today I had the distinct pleasure of meeting a modern master. Mr. David Hayes gave a lecture at the Red House in Syracuse. Debe urged me to take a couple hours out of my day. Get one last ride on the Harley and go see Mr. Hayes.

I am glad I did. Mr. Hayes gave a very unpretentious, down to earth talk and slide show to an audience of maybe 20-30 people. The talk was relaxed and informal and I was able to ask a number of questions. At the end I was able to shake his hand and have a few words with him. I left very inspired.

My only regret was that I didn't bring my camera to get a photo with him.
