Shaped Paintings
Some new shaped paintings as I gear up for my show at the Vue at Lake Eola in Orlando. Kirsten Gjermo is curating the show and she first took notice of my small shaped paintings I did in the spring (2017). We exchanged correspondence over the summer while Deb and I were in New York.
She and I agreed that I needed to scale them up for this space. That was my intention and the small pieces were an opportunity for me to work through some of the technical considerations.
I hope to continue to work larger as I continue to explore this concept.
I am encouraged by the positive feed back that these works are getting. Many of the initial small shaped paintings sold right away.
Stay tuned as I post more of these as I finish them.

New Barn/Studio

New Studio
A long time coming. Twenty one this fall actually. That's how long Deb and I have dreamed of building a barn/studio at our place in the woods know by family and friends as Dragonwood http://thedragonwoodchronicles.blogspot.com/.
We have our drawings and are ready to build a 18' X 28' foot barn.
We have done the site work, cutting trees, clearing the land, bringing in fill and grading off for a level building site. This week we hope to get the foundation, a monolithic concrete slab finished. Then after a few days of curing and permiting we can begin the frame up. Should go fast once the foundation is complete.
I will post photos of the progress.

Time to Head North
It's that time of year again. Deb and I are preparing to pack up the tent here in Florida for the summer and make our annual trip to upstate New York for the summer.
This year we hope to build a small barn with the help of our son to serve as our summer studio.
Looking forward to seeing our family and friends in New York and Vermont.
We wish all of our Florida friends and colleagues a wonderful summer. Stay cool, if you can. We will see you all in October.

"Ancient Future # 2" SOLD
"Ancient Future # 2" Mixed Media on Rag Board. 13.5" X 17.5" framed. $190.00
Currently available at Gallery on First, Sanford, Fl. or contact me directly via e-mail. kabbott765@netzero.com.
During our move we unearthed a number of older pieces long forgotten. Some ended up n the dumpster while others went into a two stacks. One stack came with us to Florida and the other remained n New York. This mixed media painting is one that made it's way to Florida with us. I Am in the process of going through these works and this is the first that I decided to frame. The date on the back indicates that I made this in 1993. Deb and I have dozens and dozens of unframed paintings and we will gradually select some for presentation.
This one strikes a chord with me, I hope others will enjoy it also.

A small concrete garden sculpture at Dragonwood. This is a piece I was playing around with several years ago and never really considered finished, but in cleaning out the studio I took it and placed it in one of our gardens in the woods. I kind of like it just the way it is. Haven't named/titled it yet. I'll come up with something. The piece stands at a little over 2 feet.

Sanford Florida - "Alive After 5" April 2011

We are back from our first winter in Florida. We absolutely fell in love with our new city, Sanford.
Sanford is a small city 20 miles northeast of Orlando and about 30 miles from the Canaveral National Seashore and the Atlantic Ocean. Sanford has a diverse population of 60,000 people. The city has a funky vibe and is home to artists, musicians and latter day hippies. Sanford sits on the shores of Lake Monroe and boasts a beautiful Marina and the recently completed "River Walk". Downtown and the historic district are famous for brick paved streets lined with Live Oaks with Spanish Moss and historical architecture.
Many local eateries, bistros and bars, many with out door seating compliment the art galleries, antique shops and boutiques in the down town area.
Each month the city closes down about five city blocks on the second Thursday of the month and puts on a mini "Mardi Gras" type street party known as "Alive After 5". Every month it has a theme that is appropriate to the time of year. Several thousand folks attend to hear live music and sample food and beverages from local establishments.
The photos here are from this past April. The theme in April was "Shrimp Shindig".

Southern Vermont Arts Center - SVAC
On a recent trip home to Vermont, Debe and I paid a visit to one of our favorite places to spend a Sunday afternoon, the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester.
I have talked in the past about growing up in the culturally rich southern Vermont area. The artists who lived in the region, some who were neighbors and friends. The places we visited like the Stratton Arts Festival and SVAC. These are some of the places that instilled in me and nurtured my love for the arts. These are the places that informed me early on and continue to do so today.
The Southern Vermont Arts Center is a beautiful old estate that has evolved over decades to become a first rate art museum with it's galleries in the original Yester House Gallery, the Wilson Museum and the Arkell Pavilion. In addition to wonderful exhibitions SVAC offers a variety of art classes for beginners and advanced programs for emerging and mid career artists. The Arts Center also offers music and performing arts programs to the region.
Any visit to southern Vermont is not complete without a visit to SVAC.
Below are some photographs taken of sculpture on the grounds of the 200 plus acre estate nestled in the mountains in Manchester.
Note *admission is free on Sundays, but feel free to leave a donation to help them continue their great work.
